I remember as a kid that one of my favorite days to get the newspaper was always the day after the NCAA men’s basketball tournament was announced.
I couldn’t wait to have that bracket in front of me and consider all of the possible match-ups and upsets.
On Sunday I was thinking about how much this has all changed. During the day, I read analysis on various web sites about teams that may be in or may be out. Then I watched the selection show on CBS. Then I called up ESPN.com to view the bracket. I clicked on various teams to review their seasons.
Of course I also looked at the About.com college basketball site, which includes advice on running a successful NCAA Tournament pool.
In my car, the local radio station was providing analysis of the tournament. When I returned home, ESPN’s tournament preview show was in full gear. And, I’ll still pick up a paper tomorrow.
I think the tournament certainly highlights just how much sports has grown in the culture in recent years.
As for my pick? I like Louisville.
